With thousands of proteins and often hundreds of associated antibodies, the selection of a specific antibody can be both time-consuming and expensive. Antibody Resource is spearheading a unique initiative designed to compare antibodies from numerous suppliers using identical samples/tissues and an identical protocol. In doing so, we hope to enable scientists to form an unrivalled opinion of which is the most suitable antibody for their research and in particular, which is going to require the least amount of optimisation, a process which can often take weeks or months.
To ensure the quality of their products, manufacturers often work diligently to validate a specific antibody developing complex methods of optimisation. Unfortunately, this process often makes a direct comparison of antibodies from different manufacturers impossible, despite our best efforts with nearly one million images, forty thousand reviews and an advanced filter matrix of over one million antibodies in our online antibody directory.
For the purposes of the antibody comparison initiative, we select the best antibodies from each manufacturer and then compare them side-by-side in identical experiments, using identical protocols to provide a direct comparison. The aforementioned experiments are conducted in collaboration with academic experts to ensure that the results are representative and conclusive. In many cases, these experiments are conducted in a lab experienced in working with specific proteins and their associated antibodies.
With a directory listing of over one million antibodies from numerous suppliers, Antibody Resource is wholly independent with no affiliation to any one supplier or manufacturer, making them the perfect organisation to carry out this important initiative.
We are already partnering with the American Society for Cell Biology to help prioritise the primary list of proteins and also to help find experienced labs to collaborate with and carry out the experiments. We are, however, still looking for more labs. Labs that collaborate with Antibody Resource and help further this initiative will not only be recognised but will also benefit from valuable leftover antibodies.
Although testing has already begun on the first batch of proteins (see below), additional labs and expertise are required to make this initiative a success, as we are planning to compare over 1,000 proteins.
Please complete our online survey if you would like to participate in the testing or if you would like to be notified of the comparison results. Proteins currently being compared:
